AABD builds research capacity in Ghana
In partnership with the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), the Academy of African Business and Development (AABD) offered a free Professional Development Research Workshop on May 16 & 17, 2022. The workshop brought together 80 graduate students, research professionals outside of academia, and scholars of all levels from various universities in Ghana.
The group of experienced facilitators for this workshop consisted of Dr. William K. Darley, University of Toledo, USA, Dr. Norma Juma, Washburn University, USA, Dr. Ellis L. C. Osabutey, University of Roehampton, UK, and Drs. Jacob Musila and Simon P. Sigué, Athabasca University, Canada. They covered a variety of topics, including Designing Impactful Research, Measurement, Psychometrics and Scale Development, Applied Qualitative Research Methods, Applied Quantitative Data Analysis, Causal Research Designs/Experimental Design Methods, and Producing an Academic Thesis. To the satisfaction of the participants, the workshop concluded with a Town Hall/Open Forum, which allowed participants and facilitators to openly discuss the specific challenges associated with research in Ghana and Africa.
Free professional development research workshops such as this are part of AABD’s activities to build research capacity in business and development in Africa. AABD also offers mentoring programs to graduate students in partnership with African universities.
